WINE BOTTLE
POLE FLOAT
The
wine bottle pole float is a mini version
of the barrel float, with a shoulder, it
can be used on slow to medium flowing
rivers, and canals.
I first
saw this float being used in France on a
small canal, I was very impressed with its
action, and holding back and easing the
floats pace to about a quarter of its
natural flow.
The
next time I saw this float was at Trent
embankment in a home international
practice, and who should be using it was
Bobb Nudd, fishing off the embankment with
this float and was catching well.
This
float is a good working float, presenting
the bait at a slower pace than the natural
flow, and without riding out of the water.
It
comes in various sizes from 4x18 to a
1gram Milo, Trabucco, Waterqueen and now
my self Gold Medal Floats make this
extremely good float.
The
shape is like a wine bottle with a neck
and barrel body, eye on the shoulder to
allow to be held up against the flow.
Colours depend on make of manufacture, a
small neat looking float.
Best
shotted with the bulk down and dropper
shots, using this float in shallow swims
is a must, as well as deeper swims up to
8ft.
With
the bulk down I like to use a string of
small shots, (number 8 shot) these can be
moved up or down the line to alter
presentation. I find a string better than
an Olivetti due to its pliable shape, and
direct contact to the business end.
The
float has an instant fishing approach, it
can settle in the water very quickly and
start to fish, good for grounbait methods.
Where the need to start fishing over an
area very quickly. Because of its nature
it can be excellent or gudgeon bashing.
This
float can be adapted to close rod and reel
fishing just off- he bank side, or whip to
hand fishing.
