ROUND BODY
POLE FLOAT
The
round body pole float has an advantage
over most body running water floats, and
that is it has less resistance against the
flow.
The
round body-float is used when the surface
skim is very strong and the drift near the
bottom is slower, so this-float can be
used to counteract any unnatural movement
from top water skim to bottom.
Also
when the surface drift is moving opposite
from the bottom drift, this can usually
happen when the wind pulls the surface one
way and re-circles underneath, canals,
lakes, slow moving rivers, for example.
The
Gloucester canal for instance, I won a big
Xmas open competition with this float when
the wind was pulling one way and
underneath the flow was going the other,
by pulling with the pole against the wind
drift, creating the presentation of a
natural presentation on the bottom.
This
float is also ideal for holding against
the tow, with less resistance against the
body I have some new type of design of
this float in my box, given to me by the
great Italian angler Milo Columbo, they
have an all glass stem and bristle that
goes straight through the middle of the
round body, allowing me to push the stem
up so to have a higher antenna on the
float.
The
line is threaded through the body and the
fine glass stem inserted after, these
floats work really well, although other
round body floats, do the same job.
Fished
with an Olivetti down towards the hook
length, the presentation begins; the
Olivetti is preceded with small number ten
styles or shots. As much as twelve in a
line just after the Olivetti then a string
of up to six number twelve’s.
This
was shown to me by an Italian
international the preferred choice of
shotting for this type of float it has an
instant fishing appeal plus less tangles
and certainly very sensitive, when held
back in the-flow.
