BALSA
BLOODWORM POLE FLOAT
These
tapered
balsas with a wire bristle and cane bottom
float, is a perfect
Stillwater pole float, with the eye on the
body at two thirds from the
base. Given to me by Pillipe
Perriot the French manager, for
totally bloodworm fishing he said. I first
used this float in 1986 for
lifting a bloodworm off the bottom of the
canal bed.
As
a very
sensitive float used in conjunction with
pole float grease, this float
worked exceptionally well when fishing
bloodworm just off or on the
bottom. By pulling the float
slightly the float will move
upwards in the water, lifting the bloodworm
off the bottom, just enough
for the bait to attract a fish.
With
the
long wire bristle, a bite will show all the
stages of development, i.e.
the float will rise before going away,
lifting up into the fish is
always the best movement of striking. This
allows the hook to lift into
the top part of the mouth, hitting more fish
is the end result.
French
anglers prefer to use a
butterfly knot for their top pole stomp
connection, this makes the pole
tip very light, and they can feel the
connection to the fish making it
very delicate.
