THE RIVER
BOLY FLOAT
The new ranges
of aerodynamic Bolognese Chub floats have
recently taken the match fishing scene by
storm. A few decades ago a friend of mine
Phil Lyons designed a chub float based
similar to the Bolognese shape. Using this
reverse pear shape design we found when
mended the long length of line from the rod
to the float in mid river the float would
hold its own procession down river.
Due to its shoulder this float would hold
under the surface of the water when mending
the bow in the line, therefore not
disturbing the float and the natural
presentation of the bait, thus allowing
anglers to catch more fish.
This float was discovered by a tackle
manufacture whilst in Phil’s tackle box and
soon this float was copied and mass produced
assuring it to become one of the most
popular big river floats of the new
decade. I have used this type of float
to great success and recently won a winter
league using this float combined with bread
flake as bait catching 44lb of chub on the
River Wye at Hereford.
Having helped design my new range of floats
I am very happy and confident that anglers
will catch more fish on big rivers such as
the Wye, Thames, Seven, Trent etc....
Using this float very similar to the
Bolognese float as described in an early
article, the shotting pattern can be copied
from the chubber shotting arrangement
