THE
BIG BARBEL WAGGLER
The Big Barbel
Waggler is a float that I developed for dragging
hard along the river bed for hard fighting
bottom feeding Barbel. Using this beefed up
version (8-16 Swan Shot) of the popular Balsa
River Waggler is an ideal float for slowing the
bait up along the bottom of a fast flowing river
bed.
Using this float on a Big River such as the River Wye and River Severn and with plenty of weight down dragging along the swim, will slow the bait up considerably thus attracting those elusive big Barbel and often big Chub. Using large bunches of maggots or casters on the hook and on some conditions pellet baits, can catch large fish when conventional waggler or stick floats can’t. Allow a couple of feet of line including hook length with strung out BB shots to drag hard along the river bed, where most conventional wagglers would drag under, this extra large buoyant Balsa float will bounce the bait along the swim while slowing the bait down. The Big Barbel Float is made from an all Balsa dowel tapered at the bottom of the float for its dynamics, with a larger tip for stopping the tackle from dragging under. Attach the float as you would a waggler (bottom only) using stopper shots on each side of the eyed base and a string of BB shots along the line below. The float will bob along the swim dragging and when a fish takes the bait the heavy boyant float will automatically hook the fish and the float will go under. (Just a word of warning: Make sure the river bed is clear of snags and sunken obstacles before fishing this dragging on method, ideally a nice gravel run or sandy bottom would suit this method best) THE BIG BARBEL WAGGLER Actual Floats ![]() ![]() SHOTTING ![]() ORDER NOW The Contents of
